Housing Day of Action: Midtown Toronto

  • 2263 Yonge Street Toronto, ON, M4P 2C6 Canada (map)

Smell that new crispness in the air? Fall is upon us. So too is campaign season and in the weeks leading up to the municipal election: More Neighbours Toronto is organizing Days of Action to mobilize support behind some of the housing champions that we've endorsed so far.

For our first day of action we are mobilizing behind two excellent candidates in Midtown Toronto: Evan Sambasviam (Eglinton-Lawrence) and Sheena Sharp (Don Valley West) who are running to unseat some of the most entrenched NIMBY voices on Council. To do that, every single door, every single conversation is vital. To flip the tables and elect a pro-housing council we need all hands on deck!

After the canvass, More Neighbours will be hosting a social for both our volunteers and the two campaigns at The Rose and Crown from 4:00 until whenever!

Schedule:

The Candidates:

Evan Sambasviam (Eglinton-Lawrence):

With the completion of new transit along the Eglinton corridor, Ward 8 will need a strong voice to support affordable housing options and to help this growing community flourish. Evan advocates for supportive housing options to end chronic homelessness, as well as for increased supply and zoning reform to address affordability and provide increased options for students, families, and seniors.

Sheena Sharp (Don Valley West):

With an incumbent who has proudly delayed housing and limited the front door access for secondary suite rentals over aesthetic concerns, this ward needs a housing champion. As an architect, Sheena has seen first-hand the barriers and delays to getting housing, daycares and complete communities built. She supports housing options that allow families and young people to stay in Toronto and existing residents to age in place, as well as a strong social housing program for those in the lowest income brackets.
